Followers is a horror movie that was released in 2017. The movie, directed by Ryan Justice, follows the lives of five social media influencers who leave town for a weekend getaway in the remote area of Joshua Tree, California. The group is composed of Elle (Amanda Delaney), a fashion influencer; Alec (Justin Maina), a fitness influencer; Zoey (Amanda Delaney), a music influencer; Dash (Derek Anthony Welch), a prankster influencer; and Hollywood (Sean Michael Gloria), a general influencer.

The story starts with a mysterious package sent to Hollywood, which contains petrified wood and a warning that they are being watched. The group, initially brushing off the strange package, continues with their trip, but soon the unsettling feeling of being watched begins to grow. As they document their trip in various social media platforms, they begin to experience strange occurrences that they document and post online, causing their followers to become increasingly fascinated with the group.

As the night progresses, their experience turns from supernatural activities to outright terror, with their cameras providing the only source of illumination. Their paranoia and fear increase with every new video capturing something unexplainable, and their followers start to become obsessed with their every move.

Followers is unlike any movie you have seen, as it uses the concept of social media influencers to showcase the obsession of our culture with fame and the dangers that come with it. It's a horror movie that takes place in the digital age, where our greatest nightmare could come from the device we can't seem to put down.

Amanda Delaney turns in a fantastic performance with her portrayal of Elle, an influencer who is struggling with the pressure of maintaining success and relevance in a constantly changing industry. Zoey, played by Nishant Gogna, delivers a heart-wrenching performance as she tries to reconcile her desire for fame with her passion for music.

Sean Michael Gloria turns in a solid performance in his interpretation of the infamous Hollywood influencer, who appears to be living two separate lives - one designed to gain social media followers and the other where he is struggling to maintain his sanity. Finally, Justin Maina's Alec is earnest and passionate, determined to present the image of being a strong and successful influencer, despite the growing danger surrounding him.

Throughout the movie, sound plays a significant role in creating an eerie and unsettling atmosphere, and the cinematography is impressive. Followers is an exceptional movie that stands out in a genre that can often feel tired and uninspired.

In conclusion, Followers is an excellent horror movie that is an accurate representation of our social media-obsessed culture. The story is well-crafted, the cast is talented, and the dialogue is both intriguing and engaging. If you're a fan of horror, social media or both; this movie is a must-watch. So, turn off your phone, and prepare to be terrified by the horrors that lie in wait beyond the screen.

Followers is a 2018 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.0.
