Fireback is a 1983 action film directed by Teddy Page and stars Richard Harrison, Bruce Baron, and Gwendolyn Hung. The movie opens with a team of U.S. soldiers deep in the jungle of Southeast Asia on a dangerous mission to blow up a bridge. The mission is a success, but things quickly take a turn for the worse when the team finds themselves ambushed by enemy troops. The soldiers are outnumbered and outgunned, and are quickly overwhelmed. All but one of the soldiers are killed in the attack, leaving Captain Bob Jackson (Harrison) the sole survivor.

After burying his fallen comrades, Jackson sets out on a mission of revenge, determined to track down those responsible for the ambush and make them pay. He soon runs into a group of rebels, who take him under their wing and help him on his quest. Along the way, Jackson meets a beautiful journalist named Janine (Hung), who is investigating the same group of rebels. Janine and Jackson initially clash, but eventually team up and discover that they have a common enemy in corrupt military leader General Akhtar (Baron).

As they work together to bring down Akhtar and his army of mercenaries, Jackson and Janine find themselves growing closer. Jackson is haunted by the memories of his fallen comrades and struggles with survivor's guilt, while Janine grapples with her own demons as a result of her past experiences reporting on war. Together, they must navigate the jungle, fight off deadly enemies, and ultimately take down Akhtar and his men in a final, explosive showdown.

One of the most notable things about Fireback is its use of real-life combat footage. The movie combines fictional elements with actual footage of skirmishes and battles, which gives the film a gritty and realistic feel. The action sequences are intense and well-staged, and the jungle setting adds an extra layer of danger and tension to the proceedings.

In terms of its characters, Fireback may not be breaking any new ground, but the central trio of Jackson, Janine, and Akhtar are all well-drawn and entertaining to watch. Richard Harrison is a solid leading man, bringing a stoic intensity to the role of Captain Jackson. Gwendolyn Hung is the standout of the supporting cast, injecting some much-needed levity and humanity into the film as the plucky journalist Janine. Bruce Baron is suitably menacing as the villainous General Akhtar, although his character is somewhat thinly-sketched.

Overall, Fireback is a solid action flick that delivers plenty of thrills and excitement. While it doesn't quite measure up to some of the other classic jungle-based action movies of the era (think Predator or Platoon), it's still a fun and engaging watch that is sure to satisfy fans of the genre. It's also worth noting that the film has a surprisingly progressive message for a movie of its time, with its portrayal of rebel fighters and the media as key players in the fight against injustice and corruption.

In conclusion, Fireback is a worthy addition to the crowded genre of '80s action movies. Its mix of real-life combat footage and fictional storytelling creates a unique and immersive experience, and the central trio of characters are all engaging and well-performed. While it may not be the most groundbreaking or innovative film of its kind, it's certainly worth a watch for fans of jungle-set action movies.
