Fighting Elegy, also localized under such titles as The Born Fighter and Elegy for a Quarrel, is a Japanese film from 1966. Nanbu is a boy attending a military middle school who falls for Michiko, the daughter of his landlady; however the lack of a constructive release for his affections forces him to resort to violence. Nanbu undergoes a rigorous training sequence that results in an invitation to join, and subsequently lead, a prominent gang. These activities eventually result in Nanbu's expulsion from classes, forcing him to transfer to a different district. Ultimately, Nanbu must choose between love and power.
