In Fight for Life, Jerry Lewis stars as an optometrist whose daughter suffers from a rare form of epilepsy. Dr. Bernard Abrams (Lewis) and his wife Shirley (Patty Duke) are fighting to get a drug approved by the FDA so that their six year old daughter can take it for her seizures and to help keep her alive. The process is slow so the couple flies to England to get it for her, as the drug has been approved there. The media picks up their struggle, and they begin to use the attention get the FDA to approve the drug faster.
