Fifty Fifty is a 1981 Bollywood comedy-drama film directed by Shomu Mukherjee and stars Rajesh Khanna, Tina Ambani and Om Shivpuri in leading roles. The film revolves around an impoverished man named Ajay who is mistakenly identified as a millionaire by a wealthy businessman, Mr. Khanna. Despite the clear case of mistaken identity, Mr. Khanna persists in showering Ajay with gifts and money, leading to a series of hilarious situations.
Rajesh Khanna plays the role of Ajay, a struggling writer who is down on his luck. He lives in a small flat with his wife, Madhu (Tina Ambani), and their young daughter. Despite his financial difficulties, Ajay is a cheerful and optimistic person, and he tries his best to make ends meet. However, his luck takes a turn for the worse when his landlord evicts him from his flat due to non-payment of rent.
Meanwhile, a wealthy businessman named Mr. Khanna (Om Shivpuri) is looking for someone to impersonate his long-lost friend, Laxman, in order to gain control of his inheritance. By coincidence, he mistakes Ajay for Laxman and offers him a job to play the role of his friend. Ajay, who is desperate for money, accepts the offer and begins to live a life of luxury, which he had never experienced before.
As Ajay enjoys the lavish lifestyle provided by Mr. Khanna, he is also torn between his loyalty to his family and his new life. While he initially enjoys the attention, Ajay soon finds himself in a web of lies and deceit. He is forced to pretend to be Laxman to everyone, including Laxman's family and friends. As the plot thickens, Ajay starts to feel guilty about the role he is playing and decides to come clean to Mr. Khanna. However, by this time, he has become so involved in the charade that it is not easy to get out of the situation.
The film features several hilarious situations, including the one where Ajay has to pretend to be a financier at a party while he doesn't know the first thing about finance. It also showcases Rajesh Khanna's comic timing and his ability to deliver witty one-liners. Tina Ambani, as Ajay's wife, delivers a powerful performance as a woman who is struggling to keep things together in the face of financial difficulties. Om Shivpuri is equally impressive as Mr. Khanna, the wealthy businessman who believes that money can buy everything.
Despite being a comedy, Fifty Fifty also deals with serious themes like poverty, the importance of family and the consequences of lying. It also has a social message, highlighting the stark differences between the lives of the rich and the poor. The film's music, composed by Bappi Lahiri, is also noteworthy, especially the songs "Dilruba Mera Dil" and "Pehli Pehli Baar Dekha Aisa Jalwa".
Overall, Fifty Fifty is an enjoyable film that offers a perfect mix of comedy, drama and social commentary. It's a must-watch for fans of Rajesh Khanna and lovers of light-hearted comedies.
