Excuse Me for Living is a romantic comedy film released in 2012. The story centers around Dan Topler, a young man in his twenties who has attempted suicide for the third time. His psychiatrist, Dr. Bernstein, decides to try a new approach and sends Dan to a seniors’ home to interact with the elderly patients there. Dr. Bernstein hopes that Dan will learn some wisdom from the older generation and rediscover the value of life.

Dan is reluctant at first and feels out of place among the seniors, but he eventually makes some unlikely friends. He befriends the feisty ex-actress, Charlotte, who is wheelchair-bound, the former senator, Harris, and most notably, Dr. Bernstein’s mother, Mrs. Roosevelt. Mrs. Roosevelt is a 90-year-old woman who is famous for her wit and charm. Dan begins to develop feelings for her but is perplexed about her age and worried about the possible repercussions of pursuing her.

Meanwhile, Dan’s family is dealing with their own ailments. His mother is struggling with addiction, his father has lost his job, and his brother is struggling with depression. Dan tries to help his family get back on their feet, but his attempts are met with resistance.

The film’s main conflict arises when an old gangster acquaintance of Dan, Tony, appears on the scene. Tony blackmails Dan into staging a fake kidnapping of Mrs. Roosevelt for his own nefarious purposes. Tony threatens to harm Dan’s family if he doesn't comply.

Dan reluctantly goes along with Tony’s plan, but things quickly spiral out of control. The fake kidnapping becomes real when Tony double-crosses Dan, and Mrs. Roosevelt is taken hostage. Dan, along with his newfound friends, joins forces to rescue Mrs. Roosevelt and stop Tony’s diabolical plan.

Excuse Me for Living is a heartwarming and funny film that explores themes of love, redemption, and the value of life. The film is led by an outstanding cast, with Tom Pelphrey giving an excellent performance as the troubled Dan. Christopher Lloyd shines as the quirky psychiatrist, and Robert Vaughn is a delight as the former senator.

The film’s writing is smart and witty, with plenty of one-liners and humorous banter. It strikes a good balance between humor and drama, with enough laughs to keep the audience engaged and enough emotional depth to resonate with viewers.

One standout aspect of the film is its portrayal of seniors. The movie portrays the seniors as vibrant and full of life, with their own unique personalities and quirks. The seniors also serve as the voice of reason and wisdom, providing a necessary perspective that Dan needs to hear.

Overall, Excuse Me for Living is an enjoyable film that is sure to bring a smile to your face. It’s a feel-good romantic comedy that delivers on both laughs and heart.

Excuse Me for Living is a 2012 romance movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4 and a MetaScore of 17.
