Escapee is a 2011 horror, thriller directed by Campion Murphy that follows the story of a student psychologist named Abby Jones (Christine Evangelista) as she tries to uncover the dark past of a patient under her care, Nell (Melissa Ordway), who thinks she is innocent of a murder conviction she received. The movie stars Dominic Purcell as Detective Chapa, the lead investigator tasked with catching the elusive escaped serial killer, and Danny Nucci as Doctor Larson, Abby's boss.

The movie begins with a graphic murder scene that sets the tone for the rest of the film. We see an extremely disturbed individual carrying out a particularly gruesome murder in a dark and dingy basement. Cut to Abby, our protagonist, who is a student in psychology observing a therapy session with Nell. Nell, who has been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorder, claims she is being wrongfully accused of several murders that were actually committed by her alter ego.

As Abby interacts more and more with Nell, she becomes increasingly convinced of her innocence and begins to investigate the murders herself. Unbeknownst to her, Nell has escaped custody and is on the loose. Detective Chapa, who has been investigating the case for years, finds out about Nell's escape and rushes to track her down before she can claim any more victims.

The plot of the movie is straight forward, without too many twists and turns, but it is well executed. The tension and suspense picks up as the movie progresses, with several jump scares thrown in just when the viewer least expects it. The movie does a great job building a sense of claustrophobia with its dark, foreboding atmosphere and tight quarters.

The acting in the movie is fairly decent, with Christine Evangelista doing a particularly good job at portraying Abby's growing obsession with Nell's case. Melissa Ordway's dual role as both Nell and her alter ego is well done, but not at the level of some more well-known portrayals of DID in popular culture. Dominic Purcell does well as Detective Chapa, the man tasked with catching the psychotic escapee.

The movie does have its flaws, as some of the characters are not fully fleshed out and there are some loose ends that are never quite tied up. Additionally, some of the plot points feel predictable, robbing the movie of some of its shock value.

Overall, Escapee is a solid horror thriller that is not groundbreaking but still very entertaining. It delivers on its promise of a suspenseful, claustrophobic experience, with decent acting and a straightforward plot that will have viewers on the edge of their seats. The movie is not without its flaws, but its strong points far outweigh any weaknesses. If you are a fan of suspenseful horror movies with a psychological twist, then Escapee is definitely worth checking out.

Escapee is a 2011 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.1.
