El Amor Y El Espanto is a low-budget Argentinian movie about incidents in the life of Argentinian short story writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges. It chronicles several events, such as regarding the writing of many of his works in the 1930s, such as Menard and El Jardin De Senderos Que Se Bifurcan, for example. The 1930s and 40s are considered the golden years of Borges' writings. The movie also details how Borges' elderly mother wanted a woman who could take care of her son; Borges would eventually marry his personal assistant, Maria Kodama, who was 40 years his junior. Literature and lost loves are the main premises of the movie.
