Easter Casket is a 2013 horror-comedy movie written and directed by Dustin Mills. The movie takes place in the fictional town of Easter Falls, where the Easter Bunny has passed away, leaving his business to his spoiled, bratty son Peter (Josh Eal). Peter plans to turn the holiday into a commercialized event, completely disregarding its religious roots.
However, things take a dark turn when Peter's father returns from the dead as a zombie and begins a killing spree. The town is thrown into chaos as the undead Easter Bunny seeks revenge on those who have wronged him and attempts to claim his rightful place as the true holiday mascot.
The movie primarily focuses on a group of friends who find themselves caught up in the Easter Bunny's reign of terror. The group is made up of the sarcastic and quirky Jenny (Erin R. Ryan), the bumbling and lovable Clarence (Jason Crowe), and the confident and resourceful Sheriff Arlene (Played by Steve Rimpici).
Throughout the movie, the group of friends must navigate their way through the chaos of the zombie Easter Bunny's rampage while attempting to find a way to stop him once and for all. However, the task proves more challenging than expected as the Easter Bunny proves to be both crafty and unpredictable, leaving the group constantly on edge.
Despite the film's obvious humor and campy vibe, Easter Casket manages to maintain a sense of atmosphere and tension throughout. The movie plays on tropes and cliches of horror movies, creating a fun and entertaining experience for fans of the genre.
One of the standout features of Easter Casket is its unique creature design. The Easter Bunny is given a gruesome undead makeover, complete with rotting fur and ferocious teeth. The use of practical effects adds to the film's overall charm and creates a sense of authenticity not often found in low-budget horror movies.
However, the movie is not without its flaws. Some viewers may find the character's sarcastic and over-the-top dialogue to be grating at times, and the pacing of the movie may feel slow in areas. Additionally, the film's reliance on horror movie cliches may come across as predictable to some.
Overall, Easter Casket is a fun and entertaining horror-comedy that delivers on gore, humor, and atmosphere. While not perfect, the movie is a charming addition to the horror movie genre and a must-watch for fans of campy horror movies.
