Down to Earth is a comedy film from 2001, directed by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz. The movie stars Chris Rock in the lead role, along with Regina King and Chazz Palminteri in supporting roles. The movie follows the story of Lance Barton (Chris Rock), a struggling comedian who dies in a car accident while trying to impress a girl he likes. However, when he reaches the pearly gates of heaven, he realizes that he has been taken before his time. In a mix-up by an angel named Keyes (Eugene Levy), Lance is sent back to Earth in the body of a rich, old white man named Charles Wellington, who was murdered by his wife and assistant.
As Lance tries to come to grips with his new body and new life, he starts to understand the true nature of the world he has come back to. He starts to see the corruption and greed that exists in Charles' business, and he sets out to use his new position to make a positive difference in the world.
Lance's new life is not without its challenges, however. He has to navigate the intricacies of being a rich, white businessman, and he has to deal with the people in Charles' life who are suspicious of his sudden change in behavior. Along the way, he also discovers that Sontee Jenkins (Regina King), the girl he was trying to impress when he died, is now engaged to a pompous politician named Sklar (Greg Germann).
Despite these obstacles, Lance is determined to make a difference in the world. He starts by using Charles' money to fund a community center in the inner city, and he starts to build relationships with the people in the area. He also starts to rekindle his relationship with Sontee, who starts to see him in a new light.
As Lance becomes more involved in the community center, he starts to realize that Sklar is much more corrupt than he first appeared. Sklar is using government funds to set up a shady casino in the community, and when Lance sets out to expose his scheme, he is faced with dangerous consequences.
The movie is a comedic take on the classic body swap trope, but it also has a deeper message about the importance of making a positive impact in the world. Chris Rock's performance is excellent as he navigates the challenges of playing a rich, white man, and Regina King is also great as the love interest caught between two very different men.
Overall, Down to Earth is a fun, lighthearted comedy with a positive message about making the world a better place. It's not a groundbreaking film, but it's an enjoyable watch with some great performances.
