Being a police detective is hard and demanding work. But it can be even more difficult when a detective is not physically up to the challenge of the job. Ray Pluto has been on the job a long time and he had the respect of his colleagues and people in the force. But the job starts to wear him down and Pluto hits rock bottom when his wife and son are killed. Just when it seems like he is at the end of his rope, Pluto is in a fast-food restaurant when a gunman starts firing. It looks like Ray Pluto has one more job to do before he goes home.

Pluto tries to draw his gun and stop the massacre, but his bad back prevents him from being able to react. A young kid takes Pluto's gun and stops the massacre with one bullet. The kid is a hero and Pluto is disgraced. A friend recommends that Pluto go see a chiropractor named Dr. Ann Beamer. After a while, Dr. Beamer starts to heal more than Ray's bad back and he sets out to repair his devastated reputation.
