Double Cross is a 1941 thriller directed by Albert H. Kelley and starring Kane Richmond, Pauline Moore, and Wynne Gibson. The film takes place in New York City during the 1930s and follows the story of a daring and assertive journalist named Brad McKay, played by Kane Richmond, who is determined to get to the bottom of a series of brutal murders happening in the city.

The movie starts with the murder of a young woman in her apartment. We see the killer escaping via a window, and the police detectives on the case are at a loss for who could have committed such a heinous act.

Enter Brad McKay, who is approached by the victim's sister, a burlesque dancer named Connie, played by Pauline Moore. Connie begs Brad to help find her sister's killer, as she believes the police won't be able to solve the case. Brad agrees to help, and, through his investigation, discovers that the murders are part of a larger criminal conspiracy involving corrupt politicians, greedy businessmen, and ruthless gangsters.

As the story unfolds, Brad, with the help of his quick-witted assistant, played by Wynne Gibson, poses as a criminal himself in order to infiltrate the inner workings of the criminal underworld. He meets a variety of characters, from the femme fatale nightclub singer Tonya, played by Virginia Brissac, to the shifty criminal mastermind known only as "The Boss," played by Anthony Warde.

As Brad gets closer to the truth, he finds himself in increasingly perilous situations, including a daring chase through the subway tunnels beneath the city and a tense confrontation with The Boss in a seedy hotel room. Throughout the movie, the tension is ratcheted up as Brad races against the clock to solve the case and bring the killer to justice.

One of the strengths of Double Cross is its excellent performances. Kane Richmond is excellent as the tenacious journalist who will stop at nothing to get the story, while Pauline Moore shines as the vulnerable and desperate sister trying to find her sister's killer. Wynne Gibson is also a standout as the plucky assistant, and the supporting players all turn in solid work.

The film's direction is also notable, with Kelley using a variety of camera angles and lighting techniques to create a sense of tension and unease. The musical score, by Leo Erdody and Alex Laszlo, is also effective, emphasizing the film's dramatic moments while also providing some lighter, upbeat moments.

Overall, Double Cross is a gripping and entertaining thriller that will keep audiences engaged from start to finish. With its intricate plot, well-drawn characters, and suspenseful action sequences, it's easy to see why the film was a hit with audiences in 1941.

Double Cross is a 1941 crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 1 minute. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1.
