Don't Let Go is a 2019 American sci-fi thriller film that tells the story of detective Jack Radcliffe (David Oyelowo) who receives a shocking call from his niece, Ashley (Storm Reid), the day after her and her family's gruesome murders. However, to Jack's surprise, the phone call is somehow from two weeks prior to the murders. As he strives to understand what is going on, Jack realizes that he has the chance to change the course of events and save his family from their painful fate.

David Oyelowo did an incredible job portraying the devastated and driven detective. His facial expressions and tone of voice were particularly compelling; the anguish and desperation in his eyes were palpable. His character went through a range of emotions, from anger and grief to determination and hope, as he started to understand what was happening and figured out the steps he needed to take. Storm Reid was also fantastic as Ashley, the teenage girl who somehow contacts her uncle from two weeks in the past. Ashley is naïve and vulnerable, as any teenager can be, but she also possesses a strong sense of intuition and a fierce will to survive. Mykelti Williamson also delivers a solid performance as Bobby, Jack's partner, and friend.

The storyline is engaging, even if a bit confusing at times. Don't Let Go blends drama, sci-fi, and thriller into one gripping tale. The film's exploration of the butterfly effect is particularly interesting. It shows how the slightest change in a timeline can have a significant domino effect on subsequent events. The central question of whether one should tamper with time or let things unfold as they should naturally is weaved beautifully into the story.

There are a few moments of action, particularly towards the climax, but overall, the film chooses to focus more on the complex emotions of its characters. The film's exploration of grief and loss is poignant and touching. It portrays the horrors of losing a loved one in a way that is raw and honest. It also depicts how time can be a cruel force, how it can make the memories of the ones we loved fade away, and how empty life can feel without them.

The film's plot, at times, is predictable. Some elements of the story are apparent from the beginning, while others may become apparent to viewers as the film progresses. Still, Don't Let Go's screenplay, written by Jacob Estes, is compelling enough to keep viewers engaged, even when they can guess what is going to happen next.

The cinematography and music are other strong points of the film. The way the camera captures the characters' facial expressions and body language helps convey the emotions they are going through. The music, composed by Ethan Gold, is haunting and enhances the overall atmosphere of the movie.

Don't Let Go is not a perfect film. Some elements of the plot could have been fleshed out more, and some questions may arise even after the credits roll. However, the film is an excellent example of how a simple concept - contacting someone from the past - can be explored in a thought-provoking way. Don't Let Go is a well-acted and well-executed sci-fi thriller that keeps the viewer engaged from the beginning until the end.

Don't Let Go is a 2019 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 49.
