In 2005, director Wim Wenders teamed up with Sam Shepard to create the film "Don't Come Knocking." The movie tells the story of a legendary Western movie star named Howard Spence (played by Sam Shepard) who has hit rock bottom in his life and career. Spence has been living a life of excess and debauchery for years, and he's finally reached the breaking point. One day, he walks off the set of his latest film and hits the road to find himself.

As Spence travels through the American West, he discovers that he has an adult son named Earl (played by Gabriel Mann) who he's never met. Earl is the product of one of Spence's many flings, and his mother has been keeping him a secret from Spence all these years. Spence is shocked to learn of Earl's existence, and he's even more surprised when he discovers that Earl has been trying to track him down for years.

Meanwhile, a woman named Doreen (played by Jessica Lange) is also on the hunt for Spence. Doreen is a fiercely independent woman who had a brief fling with Spence years ago. She's been raising their child, Sky (played by Sarah Polley), on her own ever since. However, when Doreen discovers that Spence has hit the road, she takes Sky and sets out to find him.

As Spence, Earl, Doreen, and Sky crisscross the American West in search of each other, they encounter a cast of colorful characters. Among them are a group of filmmakers who are making a movie about Spence's life and career, a young woman who's trying to make it as a singer, and a cowboy with a dark past.

Throughout the film, Spence is forced to confront the mistakes he's made in his life and career. He's also forced to face the reality of his mortality. As he reconnects with his son, his former lover, and his estranged daughter, Spence begins to understand what truly matters in life.

"Don't Come Knocking" is a beautifully shot film that captures the breathtaking landscapes of the American West. It's a poignant and moving story about a man who's lost his way and must find his way back home. The film is anchored by the stellar performances of Sam Shepard, Jessica Lange, and Tim Roth, who plays a menacing man from Spence's past.

Overall, "Don't Come Knocking" is a must-see film that explores themes of family, redemption, and the pursuit of happiness. It's a movie that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
