Dolphins is a documentary that was written by Tim Cahill and Stephen Judson. Produced by Greg MacGillivray for IMAX, the story is narrated by actor, Pierce Brosnan. The film follows how dolphins live, disclosing many interesting facts about the species. For example, female dolphins are known to speak over three times more than the males. The movie displays how both human and dolphin minds share much in common. The documentary focuses on a variety of science and adventure angles on an equal basis.

Pierce Brosnan narrates in an easy style, introducing merely a few of the over 40 dolphin species, including Spinners, Bottle Nosed and Stark Duskies. The Amazon River dolphins are depicted in an overview with action shots showing some of their day-to-day activities.

As wild animals, the dolphins do display friendly tones. However, it is important to remember that they are privy to survival mechanisms as any other animal is. They do have sharp teeth that they will use to defend themselves as they see fit.

Kathleen and Alesandro are marine biologists who take viewers along on a journey in the Bahaman Atlantic. Spotted dolphins are heard in their own language, which the hosts attempt to decipher. The sounds of whistles and clicks are included in the typical dolphin conversation.

Kathleen records and films their movements and voices, explaining some of the joys and difficulties of the work. Dean Burnell, a marine biologist in the West Indies, is seen exploring the emotional world of the dolphins. JoJo is a rascal of a dolphin who wears on the patience of snorkel and scuba divers. Dean is able to calm him, and they have swum with each other nearly on a daily basis for many years. Dean informs everyone about the emotional attachment he shares with JoJo.

As the dolphins dance and swim through the azure seas, the music of Sting and reggae beats offset the fun and frolic.

Dolphins is a 2000 documentary with a runtime of 39 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.1.
