Doctor Butcher, M.D. (also known as Zombie Holocaust) is a 1980 horror film directed by Marino Girolami and starring Ian McCulloch, Alexandra Delli Colli, and Sherry Buchanan. The film follows a group of researchers who set off on a journey to a remote tropical island to investigate strange occurrences of cannibalism and zombie-like behavior.

The film begins with a scene in a New York City hospital where a man who was admitted with a mysterious illness dies after attacking a nurse. His death is linked to the island of Matul, where a doctor named Obrero is believed to have created a serum that can reanimate the dead. A team of researchers led by Dr. Peter Chandler (McCulloch) and his assistant Lori (Delli Colli) is sent to investigate the phenomenon.

Once they arrive on the island, they find a tribe of cannibals who are carrying out Obrero's experiments. The researchers are forced to ally with a group of natives who have also been victimized by the cannibals. As they delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dark secret about Obrero's work and his ties to a mad scientist named Dr. Butcher.

The film is known for its graphic violence and gore, including scenes of cannibalism and dismemberment. The special effects, while dated by modern standards, are still effective in conveying the gruesome nature of the film's events.

In addition to its horror elements, Doctor Butcher, M.D. also incorporates elements of exploitation cinema, including gratuitous nudity and sexual content. The film's treatment of women has been criticized as sexist, with female characters often portrayed as helpless victims.

Despite its controversial content, Doctor Butcher, M.D. has developed a cult following over the years. Fans of Italian horror and exploitation cinema often cite it as a prime example of the genre. The film's shock value and campy charm continue to appeal to audiences today, more than 40 years after its original release.

While not for the faint of heart, Doctor Butcher, M.D. is a film that has stood the test of time. Its graphic violence and exploitation elements may not be to everyone's taste, but for those who appreciate the genre, it remains a cult classic.
