In Director's Cut, Penn Jillette plays the obsessed and delusional Paul Berger, a wannabe director who will stop at nothing to make his cinematic masterpiece. He decides to fund the film himself, but with the project now entirely in his hands, it soon becomes clear that Paul's vision is not necessarily the same as that of the script's original author, Harold Omstead.

Missi Pyle plays the lead role, a fiercely independent and capable woman who becomes the object of Paul's obsession. She is hired to play the character of Daisy Dukes - a woman with a child-like mind who wears skimpy clothing and is, in Paul's mind, the ultimate representation of a damsel in distress.

The movie is, as the title suggests, a director's cut of a film-within-a-film. It follows Paul's journey as he manipulates and controls every aspect of the production, from the casting to the special effects. Along the way, he becomes increasingly erratic and dangerous, leading those around him to question his sanity and motives.

Harry Hamlin plays Herbert Blount, an eccentric and artistic individual who wins a contest to be part of the film's production. He quickly becomes Paul's main adversary, as he attempts to expose the lies and deceit that Paul employs to maintain control over the project.

The movie is a unique blend of satire, horror and psychological thriller. It explores the power of artistic expression and the dangers of unchecked ambition. The themes it touches upon are deep and thought-provoking, and it is refreshing to see a movie that is willing to take risks and push boundaries in order to deliver its message.

One of the standout aspects of Director's Cut is the way it subverts the traditional Hollywood narrative. Its characters are flawed, complex, and often downright unlikable, but they are also refreshingly human. They make mistakes, they have weaknesses, and they are all struggling in their own way to find meaning and purpose in their lives.

The film also features a number of interesting meta elements. There are frequent references to other horror movies, and the film-within-a-film concept allows the viewer to see both the finished product and the process behind it. This allows for an interesting commentary on the state of the film industry and the way art is created and consumed in our modern society.

One of the most impressive aspects of Director's Cut is the way it manages to keep the viewer guessing until the very end. The movie is full of twists and turns, and it is almost impossible to predict what will happen next. This creates a sense of tension and unease that is rarely seen in modern cinema.

The acting in the movie is superb, with all of the main cast giving strong and believable performances. Penn Jillette is particularly impressive as the unhinged and manipulative Paul Berger, and his scenes with Missi Pyle are both disturbing and captivating.

Overall, Director's Cut is a must-see for fans of horror and independent cinema. It is a well-crafted and thought-provoking movie that manages to be both entertaining and challenging. It is a film that will linger in the mind long after the credits have rolled, and is sure to generate plenty of discussion and debate among viewers.

Director's Cut is a 2016 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9.
