John McClane is back in Die Hard 2, the 1990 follow-up to the hugely successful action film Die Hard. Bruce Willis returns to the role of the wisecracking New York cop, who finds himself embroiled in another dangerous situation when terrorists threaten to take down an airport in Washington D.C. The film takes place on Christmas Eve, two years after the events of the original Die Hard. McClane is waiting at Washington Dulles International Airport for his wife Holly (played by Bonnie Bedelia) to arrive from Los Angeles. As he waits, he notices a group of suspicious-looking men who turn out to be terrorists, led by the villainous Colonel Stuart (played by William Sadler). They have taken control of the airport's communication systems and are demanding the release of a drug lord from prison.

McClane, as always, is the only one who can stop them. He battles the terrorists alone, but is aided by airport police chief Carmine Lorenzo (played by Dennis Franz) and Captain Grant (played by John Amos), a Special Forces veteran. Along the way, McClane also runs into Holly's plane, which is running out of fuel and can't land.

Die Hard 2 raises the stakes from the first film in a number of ways. McClane is once again outnumbered and outgunned, but this time he's not just fighting inside a skyscraper – he's battling terrorists with access to technology that can bring down entire airplanes. The film also amps up the humor and the one-liners, giving Willis plenty of opportunities to crack wise as he dispatches his enemies. The film also features a thrilling snowmobile chase and a dramatic ending that involves an airplane exploding on the runway.

One of the strengths of Die Hard 2 is its supporting cast. Bedelia is once again a strong presence as Holly, McClane's wife who is trapped on a plane for much of the film. Atherton returns as sleazy journalist Richard Thornburg, who also appeared in the first film. His character provides some comic relief, as well as a subplot involving his efforts to break the story of the airport siege. Franz is a standout as the incompetent Lorenzo, who at first clashes with McClane but eventually comes around to his way of thinking. Amos is also great as the tough but supportive Grant.

The film also introduces a number of new characters, including Sadler's villainous Colonel Stuart. Sadler gives a menacing performance as the leader of the terrorists, who is determined to carry out his mission no matter what the cost. There's also Fred Thompson as the airport's chief of operations, who provides some gravitas to the proceedings.

Die Hard 2 isn't as groundbreaking or fresh as the first film, but it's still a solid action flick with plenty of thrills and chills. Willis is once again a charismatic lead, and the film's supporting cast is strong across the board. Director Renny Harlin keeps the action moving at a brisk pace, and the film has a number of memorable set pieces. It's a worthy sequel to one of the best action movies of all time, and it's easy to see why it was a box office hit when it was released in 1990.

In conclusion, Die Hard 2 is an action-packed, suspenseful movie that delivers on the promise of its predecessor. While not as groundbreaking as the first film, it's still a fun ride that features Willis at his wisecracking best. The supporting cast is strong, the action is intense, and the film has plenty of memorable moments. If you're a fan of action movies, Die Hard 2 is definitely worth checking out.

Die Hard 2 is a 1990 action movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 4 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.1 and a MetaScore of 67.
