Detention of the Dead is a 2012 horror comedy film directed by Alex Craig Mann. The film follows a group of high school students who are forced to band together when their school is overrun by zombies. The movie begins with a typical day at George A. Romero High School, where a group of students from different cliques are sentenced to detention. The detention supervisor, a strict and overbearing teacher named Mrs. Rumble, assigns them an essay on the meaning of life. However, before they can complete their task, a zombie outbreak occurs, and they find themselves trapped in the school with no way out.

The school is now overrun by a horde of flesh-eating zombies, and the students must put aside their differences and work together if they want to survive. They soon discover that the only way out of the school is through the front door, which is heavily guarded by the zombies outside.

As the students try to come up with a plan to escape, they are constantly being pursued by the zombies, who are also attacking other students in the school. The group includes the jock Eddie (Jacob Zachar), the nerdy nerd Ash (Jayson Blair), the cheerleader Willow (Alexa Nikolas), the emo girl Janet (Christa B. Allen), and the stoner Dugan (Max Adler).

As the group tries to find a way out, they must also deal with their own personal issues and grievances with each other. Eddie and Ash have a longstanding rivalry, while Janet is still struggling with her breakup with Eddie. As they work together to survive, however, the students begin to put their differences aside and form a bond that might just help them escape the zombie-filled school.

The zombies in the film are portrayed as typical movie zombies – slow, lumbering creatures that are attracted to sound and movement. However, the film does add a new twist to the zombie mythology by introducing the concept of zombies retaining their individual personalities and habits after they turn. For example, a zombie that used to be a jock is still interested in sports, while a zombie that used to be a pothead is still fixated on smoking weed.

The movie has a consistent tone of horror comedy, with plenty of gruesome zombie kills balanced with humor and witty one-liners. The film also takes self-aware shots at zombie movie tropes, as the characters make references to famous zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead.

In addition to the zombie action, the movie also explores themes of acceptance and self-discovery. As the students are trapped in the school with no escape, they are forced to confront their own insecurities and come to terms with who they are. For example, Willow, the popular cheerleader, begins to question her shallow lifestyle and identity, while Ash, the nerdy nerd, finds newfound bravery and confidence.

Overall, Detention of the Dead is an enjoyable and entertaining horror comedy that pays homage to classic zombie movies while also adding its own unique twist to the genre. The film has a likable cast of characters, plenty of gore and humor, and a satisfying ending that wraps up the story nicely. Whether you're a fan of horror movies or just looking for a good time, Detention of the Dead is definitely worth checking out.
