Dead Man's Bounty, originally named Summer Love, has the unique distinction of perhaps being the first Polish Western. It was written and directed by Polish director Piotr Uklanski. A stranger, played by Karel Roden, brings the body of a wanted man into a peaceful and small frontier town. Val Kilmer plays the wanted corpse. He has a $500 bounty on his head. He starts the movie dead and ends the movie dead. He doesn't come back to life in between either, although he does have a role.
Roden loses the dead man's body in a sadistic card game to the town's drunken sheriff, played by Boguslav Linda. The dead man's body was all he had to bet.
The sheriff's heart is scarred from his past affair with bargirl Katarzyna Figura, who seduces Roden. He then shoots one of the locals when he accidently discharges his rifle. He flees town and the sheriff pursues him. While being pursued Roden tries to figure out how to collect his bounty and keep the corpse that he lost in the card game. The manhunt follows.
