Dark Skies is a 2013 horror film about a family who begins experiencing a series of strange and unsettling events in their home. The movie stars Keri Russell (The Americans), Josh Hamilton (13 Reasons Why), and Dakota Goyo (Real Steel). The movie follows the Barrett family as they struggle to come to terms with bizarre occurrences happening around them. The Barretts - Lacy (Russell) and Daniel (Hamilton) - are parents to their two sons, Jesse (Goyo) and Sam (Jake Brennan). Early on in the film, strange things start happening in their home. Objects move by themselves, unexplained noises disturb them at all hours of the night, and the family's electronic devices start turning on and off by themselves.

At first, Lacy chalks up these strange occurrences to the overactive imaginations of her sons, but soon realizes that something more sinister is at play. When Jesse starts to display strange behavior after becoming obsessed with drawing pictures of strange, alien-like creatures, the Barretts seek out the help of an expert in paranormal activities.

The adviser advises them that they could be the victims of alien abductions whose aim is to harvest the family members' organs in order to create a hybrid of aliens and human beings that are stronger, more intelligent and more advanced than either race. But despite the Barretts taking all available measures to protect themselves, their abductors are relentless and seem to always be one step ahead of them, and they find themselves in a desperate fight for survival.

As the events of the film escalate, the tension and horror deepen. The movie's unsettling atmosphere builds through small, eerie moments of mystery and tension, and the suspense climaxes in a gut-wrenching finale that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Keri Russell, in particular, gives an incredibly strong performance as Lacy Barrett, playing a mother trying to defend herself and her family against a seemingly unbeatable foe. Her onscreen chemistry with both Hamilton and Goyo is excellent, and their interactions together make the film feel grounded in a way that it wouldn't if any of the cast members were weaker.

In addition to a strong cast, the movie also features some stunning cinematography and sound design that amplifies the film's creepy and suspenseful atmosphere. From a tense scene in which the house is plunged into darkness, to the depiction of strange, unidentifiable sounds coming from beyond the house's walls, Dark Skies knows how to push your buttons and make your hair stand on end.

Overall, Dark Skies is a great horror experience that will leave you feeling unsettled and spooked. It's an intense and chilling watch, with a strong cast, excellent effects, and a smart script. Fans of horror movies will definitely want to give this one a watch, but be warned - it's not for the faint of heart.

Dark Skies is a 2013 science fiction movie. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.3 and a MetaScore of 50.
