Danger Lights is a 1930 American film directed by George B. Seitz, and starring Louis Wolheim, Jean Arthur, and Robert Armstrong. The film is set in the Mountain Division of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad in the Western United States. The plot of the movie revolves around a group of railroad men who work on the dangerous job of lighting and guarding the signals along the railway lines.

The story follows Dan Thorn (played by Wolheim), who is the chief of the danger lights, and who has dedicated his life to the railroad. To him, the lights are his life and he cannot even imagine of doing anything else. His assistant is a young man named Larry Doyle (played by Armstrong), who is the exact opposite of Thorn. Doyle is carefree and careless, and hates his job. He is always looking for a way out, but has not been able to find one yet.

Things change when a beautiful young woman named Mary Ryan (played by Jean Arthur) arrives in town. Thorn immediately takes a liking to her and starts to court her. She also finds herself attracted to Thorn but is unsure about committing to him. Doyle, who has also fallen for Mary, sees an opportunity to get rid of Thorn and tries to sabotage his work. However, things go wrong, and the railway line is put in danger, with the lives of the crew in peril.

The film was made in the early days of sound, and the director makes the most of the technology. The sound of the trains and the surrounding landscape is brilliantly captured, making the audience feel as if they are right there with the characters. The film was also shot on location in the mountains, and the stunning scenery adds to the beauty of the movie.

The performances of the actors are excellent, with Wolheim giving a strong, intense performance as the grizzled veteran Thorn. He brings a sense of urgency to the role and makes the audience feel the danger of the job. Armstrong is equally impressive as Doyle, the conflicted young man torn between his hate for the job and his love for Mary. Jean Arthur is outstanding as Mary Ryan, bringing a sense of vulnerability to the character.

One of the standout scenes in the movie is the scene where the crew is trapped on a rockslide. The danger is palpable, and the characters' fear is evident. The scene is expertly shot, and the tension builds to a crescendo before reaching a dramatic conclusion.

Overall, Danger Lights is a film that showcases the danger and beauty of railway work. The movie is a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The performances by the actors, the sound design, and the stunning scenery make this classic movie well worth watching.
