Dadnapped is a 2009 Disney Channel Original Movie that follows the story of a young girl named Melissa Morris, played by Emily Osment, who is obsessed with the bestselling adventure novel Trip Zoome. The book's author and Melissa's father, Neal Morris, is a famous children's author who has been too busy to pay attention to Melissa's life as of late. Melissa is overdue for some quality time with her dad, so she plans a surprise family vacation.
However, things don't go as planned when Mel's father is kidnapped by some overzealous fans who are convinced that Neal's kidnapping will make their dreams of meeting him come true. The kidnappers, led by handsome but hapless Tripp, played by David Henrie, demand that Melissa retrieve her father's newest manuscript, which is about to be published. Although the manuscript has been stolen by the kidnappers, it is the only leverage that Melissa has to bargain for her father's safe return. Melissa must team up with some unlikely accomplices and use her knowledge of Trip Zoome's books to track down the manuscript and rescue her father.
Melissa's quest takes her on a wild adventure that leads her to a comic book store, a dangerous junkyard, and a shopping mall. Along the way, she enlists the help of Lucas, played by Jason Earles, a security guard at the mall who is fired after Melissa and her friends accidentally set off the security alarm. The team must overcome numerous obstacles, including a helicopter chase and a daring car ride. Without giving too much away, it's safe to say that Melissa and her friends prove that they are up to the challenge and Melissa's dad is safely returned home.
The movie is a charming family comedy that is suitable for all ages. The acting is solid, especially Emily Osment's portrayal of Melissa, who is both smart and determined. David Henrie brings some humor to the role of Tripp, who is in way over his head. Jason Earles, known for his role as Jackson Stewart in Hannah Montana, brings some comic relief as the bumbling security guard. The movie is well-paced and keeps the viewer engaged throughout. The plot is relatively predictable, but it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the movie.
The themes of the movie are centered around family, loyalty, and the importance of spending time with loved ones. Melissa learns that her father's work is important, but that he also needs to make time for his family. The movie also shows the importance of having a support system and the value of working as a team. Finally, the film highlights the fact that adventure and excitement can be found in everyday life, and that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones spent with those we love.
Overall, Dadnapped is an enjoyable family movie that is not only entertaining but also reinforces valuable lessons about the importance of family and teamwork. Fans of Emily Osment and David Henrie will not be disappointed, and the movie is a great choice for a family movie night. The film is perfect for those who are looking for a lighthearted and fun adventure with a heartwarming message.
