Critters is a science fiction/horror movie that was released in 1986. It is about a small town that is being terrorized by a group of furry, carnivorous aliens called Critters. The movie stars Dee Wallace, M. Emmet Walsh, and Billy Green Bush. The plot of the movie starts with the escape of a group of creatures from a maximum security prison asteroid. These creatures are called Krites and they are small, furry balls with a mouth full of sharp teeth. They are also able to roll like a ball and have the ability to shoot their quills at their enemies.

The Krites steal a spaceship and head towards Earth. Once they arrive, they land in a small rural town in Kansas. There, they start attacking and eating everything in sight, including livestock and people.

The Brown family, who live on a farm outside the town, are the first to encounter the Krites. The Brown family consists of Helen (Dee Wallace), Jay (Billy Green Bush), their daughter April (Nadine Van der Velde), and their son Brad (Scott Grimes). The Browns come across the Krites when their dog, a beagle named Brown, chases one of the creatures into the house.

Meanwhile, two intergalactic bounty hunters, Ug and Lee (Terrance Mann and Don Keith Opper), are sent to Earth to track down the Krites and capture them before they cause any more damage. Ug and Lee have a gadget that can detect the Krites and can also disable them.

As the Krites continue to wreak havoc in the town, the Browns and the bounty hunters team up to stop them. They barricade themselves in the house and prepare to defend themselves against the creatures.

One of the standout features of Critters is its special effects. The Krites were created using a combination of practical effects and animatronics. The animatronics were created by the Chiodo brothers, who also worked on visual effects for other movies such as Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Team America: World Police.

Critters has been compared to other horror movies of the time like Gremlins and Ghoulies. However, unlike those movies, Critters has a more violent and gruesome tone. The movie is not afraid to show blood and gore, which was unusual for a PG-13 movie at the time.

Critics received the movie well, praising it for its special effects and energetic pace. The movie was successful enough to warrant three sequels and a television series.

In conclusion, Critters is a fun and gory sci-fi horror movie that still holds up today. Its premise of carnivorous aliens attacking a small town is simple yet effective. The special effects are impressive and the cast, particularly Dee Wallace and M. Emmet Walsh, give strong performances. It's a movie that horror fans should definitely check out.

Critters is a 1986 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 52.
