In the movie Crimson Winter, we are introduced to a world where the humans and vampires are at war with each other. The Sun has been blotted out by a supernatural eclipse that has lasted for three years, and both sides are struggling to survive in the hostile environment. The humans have created a safe haven for themselves in the city of Hemera, protected by a barrier that keeps the vampires out. However, their supplies are running low, and it is only a matter of time before they are forced to venture out to scavenge for food and resources.
The story revolves around Aldon (played by Bryan Ferriter), a human soldier who is tasked with leading a group of soldiers outside the city to find supplies. They soon encounter a group of vampires led by the ruthless Viktor (played by Nick Milodragovich), who are also looking for supplies to sustain themselves. Viktor is not opposed to making a deal with the humans to get what he wants, but Aldon and his comrades are understandably skeptical of the vampires' intentions.
Things take a turn for the worse when they discover that the eclipse is starting to recede, and the Sun is slowly returning. This means that the barrier protecting Hemera will soon become useless, leaving the humans vulnerable to attacks from the vampires. Aldon and his team must find a way to get back to the city before it's too late, but they are constantly besieged by the vampires' attacks.
Crimson Winter is a movie that defies expectations in several ways. For one, it takes a refreshingly realistic approach to the vampire mythos. These aren't your charming, sparkly vampires from Twilight or the sexy, seductive vampires from True Blood. They are monstrous creatures who are willing to do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means allying themselves with their mortal enemies.
The movie is also notable for its impressive cinematography. The desolate, snow-covered landscapes make for a stark and haunting backdrop to the action. The fight scenes are well choreographed and intense, with plenty of blood and gore to satisfy horror fans.
However, the movie is not without its flaws. Some of the acting is a bit stilted, particularly in the case of Kailey Michael Portsmouth, who plays a human scientist that Aldon and his team encounter on their journey. The pacing is also uneven, with some scenes dragging on for too long while others feel rushed.
Despite these issues, Crimson Winter is a solid entry into the vampire horror genre. It offers a unique and compelling take on the timeless conflict between humans and vampires, and features some impressive visuals and action sequences. If you're a fan of horror movies or vampire lore, this is definitely one worth checking out.
Crimson Winter is a 2014 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 2.8.
