Creep 2 is a found-footage horror movie that follows a character named Sarah (Desiree Akhavan), a web series host. The film starts with Sarah going off the grid, quitting her web series, and trying to find a new, exciting project. She comes across an ad online requesting assistance for someone who wants to make a documentary, and she decides to take the job. What starts as an exciting new prospect turns into a nightmare as she meets the subject of the documentary, a man named Aaron (Mark Duplass), who claims to be a serial killer.
At first glance, Aaron seems to be a harmless oddball who is obsessed with his own mortality. But as Sarah spends more time with him, she begins to suspect that he might be telling the truth about his homicidal tendencies. Sarah is initially excited by the prospect of making a documentary about a real-life serial killer. However, as Aaron begins to reveal his true nature, Sarah becomes increasingly uncomfortable and fearful.
The movie takes place over a few days, and it is entirely shot in a way that makes it feel like an indie documentary. The camera work is shaky, the sound is rough, and the editing leaves a lot of breaks in the narrative. With that being said, the acting is well done, and the story is compelling enough to keep viewers engaged.
The film's writing is smart and builds tension progressively. Being a sequel, in words of Mark Duplass himself, we don't have the luxury of introducing the central character again. However, the film does enough to familiarize the viewer with Aaron's obsession with mortality and his brutal methodology. The tension created between Sarah and Aaron is what keeps the story moving forward.
The character of Sarah is written in a way that the audience can relate to her persona. She is arguably the bravest female characters written in modern horror movies. Her character is propelled by her desire to make unique and engaging content for her web series. Her strong will and determination never let her run away when anyone else would have given up.
The pacing is slow in the beginning, but once the suspense starts to kick in, it never lets up until the end. The climax is satisfying, and the conclusion leaves the viewers questioning the morals and implications of the protagonistâs final decisions.
In summary, Creep 2 is a well-made suspenseful horror film. It will make you think about the human psyche and how people deal with dark, dangerous individuals. For those who enjoy psychological thrillers and found-footage horror movies, it is an excellent film to consider. It is a gripping movie that will keep the audience at the edge of their seat until the very last frame.
Creep 2 is a 2017 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 75.
