Crazy/Beautiful is a 2001 romantic drama that follows the lives of Nicole (Kirsten Dunst) and Carlos (Jay Hernandez), two high school students from opposite ends of the spectrum. Nicole is the daughter of a wealthy, prominent congressman, while Carlos is a working-class Latino boy struggling to deal with the pressures of his home life.

Nicole is an intelligent and beautiful girl, but she's also a deeply troubled teenager who revels in rebellion and self-destruction. Her substance abuse and wild partying have left her virtually isolated from her father and stepmother, who hope that a move to a new school in California will help get her back on track.

It's at this new school where Nicole and Carlos meet. Despite their vastly different backgrounds and social circles, the two find a spark of chemistry that soon evolves into a passionate romance. However, as their love affair progresses, they soon realize that their families and peers are not accepting of their relationship.

As Nicole struggles to come to terms with her own personal demons, her relationship with Carlos becomes increasingly complicated. She's torn between her desire to be with him and the societal pressures that tell her she shouldn't be. And, on top of that, Carlos is struggling with his own issues and pressures at home, which eventually become too much for him to bear.

Throughout the movie, we see the ups and downs of Nicole and Carlos' relationship, as well as the battles they face individually. We also see the impact that their unconventional romance has on those around them, especially their families.

Kirsten Dunst gives an outstanding performance as Nicole, breathing life into a role that could've easily been a one-dimensional "bad girl" character. Dunst's portrayal of Nicole is both nuanced and layered, showcasing the character's pain and vulnerability underneath her tough exterior.

Jay Hernandez also shines as Carlos, perfectly capturing the character's sense of conflict and inner turmoil. Hernandez's raw and emotional performance elevates the film and makes it impossible not to root for Carlos and Nicole's relationship.

The supporting cast, which includes Bruce Davison as Nicole's well-meaning father and Taryn Manning as Nicole's troubled friend, also delivers strong performances that complement the central love story.

Visually, the film is stunning, with director John Stockwell making great use of the picturesque setting of Santa Monica, California. The soundtrack is also a standout, featuring artists such as Moby and The Flaming Lips.

Crazy/Beautiful is ultimately a love story that asks important questions about the barriers we create for ourselves and others. It's a tale of two people who find each other despite societal expectations and societal norms. It's a reminder that love can conquer all, even in the face of adversity.

Overall, Crazy/Beautiful is a beautifully crafted film that showcases the talent of its lead actors and its director. It's a story that transcends genre and age, reminding us of the power of young love and the challenges that come with it.

Crazy/Beautiful is a 2001 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 61.
