Confession is a unique film that gives the viewer insight into what monotony and oppression can do to the human spirit. The documentary-type film captures the mundane life of a commander of a ship that moves through the Arctic seas. Given only 10 minutes of light per day, the military life of the commander and his crew revolves around sleeping, eating and cleaning of the quarters. The young Russian teenage soldiers aboard are subject to many invasive inspections to keep them clean of venereal disease and lice.
Throughout the movie, the commander’s face remains stiff, stoic. He stays calm and dutiful, all the while he puts forth the feeling of longing to be somewhere else in space and time. But the commander performs his daily duties and remains in command of his young soldiers in the bleak world around them.
