The movie is titled as a French expression on lies and balances between farce and drama without appearing sentimental or silly. The schizophrenic mood has two roles in the main narrative though peripheral incidents are few to avoid repetition. Nonetheless, Depardieu is able to entertain with consummate ease whereas Trintingant gives a poignant performance by showing the effects of a compulsive liar while offering a perfect foil for Depardieu boyish exploits. The script is well written to capture a chalk and cheese pairing that seemingly works perfectly as the movie unravels. The humor is intended to neutralize the schizophrenic mood.
