In the action-packed movie Commando, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays retired Delta Force operative John Matrix, who has retired to a secluded cabin in the mountains with his young daughter Jenny (played by Alyssa Milano). However, his peaceful life is turned upside down when a group of mercenaries led by a former colleague named Bennett (Dan Hedaya) kidnaps Jenny with the intention of using her as leverage to force Matrix to carry out a political assassination.

Matrix is forced to use his skills to fight a one-man war against the heavily armed group in order to rescue his daughter, aided only by a flight attendant named Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong) who becomes involved in the situation by chance. With Cindy's help, Matrix tracks down the mercenaries and engages them in a series of explosive, often brutal battles.

The film, directed by Mark L. Lester, is known for its high-octane action sequences and Schwarzenegger's larger-than-life performance as a nearly unstoppable force of nature. The movie also features memorable supporting roles, such as David Patrick Kelly as the slimy, weaselly Sully and Bill Duke as the cold, calculating hitman Cooke.

While the plot is relatively simple and focused on the rescue mission, the characters are entertaining and memorable, each with their own quirks and motivations. The humor in the film, often delivered via Schwarzenegger's deadpan one-liners, provides a nice contrast to the often intense and violent action scenes.

One aspect that stands out about Commando is its use of practical effects and stunts. The movie was made in the pre-CGI era, so the explosions, fights, and car chases are all real, with skilled stunt performers putting their lives on the line to create excitement on screen. This adds an extra layer of visceral excitement to the movie, as viewers can always tell when they're watching something that actually happened, rather than a computer-generated approximation.

Overall, Commando is a quintessential '80s action movie, featuring a muscular hero, cartoonish villains, and over-the-top action. It's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still manages to deliver plenty of entertainment value. Whether you're a fan of Schwarzenegger, action movies in general, or just looking for a thrill ride, Commando is definitely worth a watch.

Commando is a 1985 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 51.
