Come Hell or High Water is a 2008 low-budget horror film directed by J.M. Stelly and starring Mark Redfield, Michael Hagan, and Jennifer Rouse. Set in the small, isolated town of New Hope, Louisiana, the plot revolves around a series of strange and inexplicable events that occur after the arrival of a mysterious stranger. The film opens with a tantalizing prologue that sets the stage for the supernatural horrors to come. We see an old man (played by Redfield) sitting on his porch, smoking a pipe and staring out into the darkness. Suddenly, he hears a noise and is attacked by an unseen assailant. As he struggles to fend off his attacker, we see a hand reach out of the darkness and drag him away.
The action then shifts to New Hope, where we are introduced to some of the local residents. There's Ronnie (Hagan), the town sheriff, who is struggling to maintain law and order in the face of rising crime rates. There's also his love interest, Sarah (Rouse), a spunky young woman who works at a local diner. We also meet a number of other colorful characters, including a group of teenage pranksters, a rebellious young woman named Lulu, and a creepy old man who seems to know more about the town's dark history than he lets on.
As the story unfolds, we learn that the strange occurrences in New Hope are linked to the arrival of a mysterious stranger named Mr. Farley (played with creepy intensity by Redfield). Farley is a strange, enigmatic figure who seems to have the power to manipulate the minds and actions of those around him. He is also pursuing a hidden agenda that involves the resurrection of a powerful and malevolent ancient force.
As the townspeople become more and more under Farley's spell, they begin to act out in bizarre and violent ways. And as the sheriff tries to make sense of the chaos, he finds himself facing a threat that he never imagined possible. With the help of Sarah and Lulu, Ronnie must confront Farley and his dark forces in a final, bloody showdown that will determine the fate of New Hope and its inhabitants.
Overall, Come Hell or High Water is a competently made low-budget horror film that benefits from its strong cast and atmospheric setting. While the story itself is somewhat predictable and formulaic, the film manages to keep things interesting with its numerous twists and turns. The special effects are minimal but effective, and the cinematography is suitably moody and atmospheric. All in all, it's an enjoyable and entertaining film that should appeal to horror fans looking for a fun, low-budget scare.
