Coffee & Kareem is a 2020 American action-comedy film starring Ed Helms, Taraji P. Henson, and Terrence Little Gardenhigh. The movie is directed by Michael Dowse and written by Shane Mack. It follows the story of James Coffee (Ed Helms), a hapless Detroit cop, who teams up with 12-year-old Kareem Manning (Terrence Little Gardenhigh) to take down a dangerous criminal named Orlando Johnson (RonReaco Lee).

The storyline of the movie is quite simple. James is dating the mother of Kareem, Vanessa (Taraji P. Henson), and Kareem hates him. Kareem decides to team up with some criminals to get rid of James, but things quickly spiral out of control. When James responds to a disturbance at Vanessa's house, Kareem mistakes him for one of the bad guys and attacks him. The two soon find themselves on the run from both the police and the criminals.

The rest of the movie is filled with car chases, shootouts, and James and Kareem constantly getting into trouble. James must earn Kareem's trust while also trying to keep him out of danger. The antics of Kareem provide much of the humor in the film, as he uses foul language and dangerous weapons, much to the chagrin of James.

Ed Helms delivers a strong performance as James, portraying his character as a bumbling but well-intentioned cop. His comedic timing is spot on, and he has great chemistry with Taraji P. Henson. Taraji is perfect as Vanessa, delivering a strong performance as a single mother trying to balance her work life with raising a difficult son.

Terrence Little Gardenhigh steals the show as Kareem. Despite his young age, he delivers an incredible performance as a streetwise kid who is both tough and vulnerable. He is constantly getting into trouble and using foul language, but his character is also dealing with some serious issues, like trying to fit in at school and missing his absent father.

The supporting cast is also excellent, particularly Betty Gilpin as James' partner, Vanessa's co-worker, and Orlando's girlfriend. Her character adds a layer of complexity to the plot, and Betty delivers a strong performance as a tough and cold-hearted criminal.

The action scenes are well-choreographed and keep the movie moving at a brisk pace. The car chases are particularly exciting, with the duo driving a hot pink car while being pursued by hired goons. The movie also has a few surprises up its sleeve, with some unexpected twists and turns.

While the movie is an action-comedy, it also deals with some serious issues. The relationship between James and Kareem is at the heart of the movie, with James taking on a mentorship role for the troubled kid. He serves as a father figure for Kareem, showing him the right path and helping him deal with his issues. The movie also deals with themes of family, loyalty, and trust.

Overall, Coffee & Kareem is a fun, fast-paced action-comedy that delivers laughs and excitement. The chemistry between the lead actors is excellent, and the supporting cast is strong. While the movie does have some serious moments, it never loses sight of its comedic roots. It's a great movie for a night in with friends or family.

Coffee & Kareem is a 2020 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2 and a MetaScore of 35.
