The movie Coach Carter is based on a true story. Samuel L. Jackson plays basketball coach Ken Carter. It is directed by Thomas Carter and written by Mark Schwahn along with John Gatins. Ken Carter takes a job at his former high school as the basketball coach. The Richmond Oiler players are rude and disrespectful upon the arrival of their new coach. Coach Ken Carter makes it his duty to change the attitudes of each team player. He makes sure each of them maintain an average of 2.3 in all classes to stay on the team. Several players disagree with this and quit the team on their own. Even though they are minus a few players, the team still wins their first victory thanks to the coaching of Coach Carter. Carter's son eventually joins the team. One of the former teammates Cruz decides he wants to rejoin the team. Cruz in struggling with his relationship with his girlfriend who is pregnant. Coach Carter lets him come back but not after proving himself by doing 1000 suicides and 2500 pushups.

The grades of the players start to drop so Carter decides to put the gym on lock down until all players grades are up. This doesn't set well with the principal or the school board. The lock down doesn't last long. Carter ends up quitting the coaching position. One day he goes to the gym to find all the players in there studying. Eventually, the grades are back up to average and the teammates can play basketball again. The Oilers go to the playoffs but end up losing. The team players are still very proud of what they have accomplished.

Coach Carter is rated PG-13 for violence, some sexual content, language, and scenes of teen partying. The movie is great for teenagers along with adults. Some parents may feel as though their younger aged children shouldn't watch it. The story of Coach Carter is heartfelt. Viewers will learn that school should come before a sport. Although some may not agree with this. Viewers are encouraged to watch this movie with family and friends. The movie offers learning experiences for teens as well as how to treat one another with respect. Other high school basketball players may see why maintaining good grades is essential in playing sports. Samuel L. Jackson is a well-known actor and has won very many awards. His role as Coach Carter is among one of his most popular roles.
