Class Action is a legal thriller film released in 1991. The movie was directed by Michael Apted and starred Gene Hackman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Colin Friels in the main roles. The movie follows a father-daughter lawyer team who are on opposite sides of a class action suit against an auto manufacturer. Jedediah Tucker Ward (Gene Hackman) is a successful attorney and single father of his daughter Maggie (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), who is also a lawyer. They both work in the same law firm but follow different approaches to law. Maggie, who is always at odds with her father, prefers to represent plaintiffs, mostly on the behalf of the underprivileged and the downtrodden, while Jedediah is a corporate lawyer who represents large corporations.

The story starts when a defect in an automobile manufactured by the automobile company causes the car to explode, killing the driver. The driver's family files a lawsuit against the company for $5 million in damages, which turns into a class-action lawsuit. Maggie is representing the plaintiff who filed the case and is determined to win the case for her clients. Jedediah also becomes involved in the case, representing the automobile company.

As the case proceeds, Maggie and Jedediah find themselves working in the same case but on the opposite side. Maggie struggles to come to terms with her father, who represents the company she despises. Meanwhile, Jedediah starts to see the case through her daughter's eyes as he uncovers the various cover-ups and wrongdoings of the automobile company.

The movie is a classic courtroom drama, with plenty of tension and drama throughout. The case goes through various twists and turns as new evidence comes to light, and the lawyers work tirelessly to build their respective cases. Jedediah and Maggie's strained relationship forms the backbone of the story, and their interactions add emotional depth to the film.

The acting in Class Action is top-notch, with Gene Hackman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio giving standout performances as the father-daughter duo. Colin Friels, who plays the lawyer representing the plaintiff, also puts in a solid performance.

The movie explores themes such as corporate greed, family ties, and the cost of fighting for justice. It delves into the complex relationships between individuals and the larger organizations of which they are a part, highlighting the dilemmas and difficult choices faced by those in positions of power.

Overall, Class Action is an engaging and thought-provoking movie that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats with its gripping storyline, excellent acting, and well-executed courtroom scenes.
