Checking Out is an American comedy that was released in 2005. Directed by Jeff Hare, the movie features a star-studded cast including Peter Falk, Laura San Giacomo, and David Paymer. The movie follows the story of Ray Macklin (Paymer), a successful businessman who has everything going his way in life. However, he is also a hypochondriac and is convinced that he has only a few weeks to live. Determined to make the most of his remaining days, Ray decides to organize his own funeral while he is still alive. He wants everything to be perfect; starting from the eulogies to the music, the floral arrangements, and even the color of the casket.

With the help of his wife, Lydia (San Giacomo), Ray seeks out the assistance of Frank Sinatra Jr. (playing himself), to provide the perfect funeral music. Meanwhile, Ray's estranged brother, Marvin (Falk), who is a funeral director, is brought in to help organize the funeral, further complicating things.

Ray's preoccupation with his funeral and the events leading to it, causes him to ignore everything else in his life, including his work and even his marriage. Along the way, he begins to question what he really wants out of life, and whether he should be living it any differently.

The movie is a comedy that explores the themes of life and death, family, relationships, and self-discovery. It is a heartwarming and at times emotional story that is replete with numerous laugh-out-loud moments.

David Paymer gives an outstanding performance as Ray Macklin, perfectly capturing the character's neurotic and controlling personality. Laura San Giacomo is equally impressive as Ray's wife, Lydia, who wants nothing but the best for her husband but is ultimately left feeling frustrated and ignored. The character of Marvin, played by Peter Falk, adds a layer of complexity to the movie, with his arrival causing tensions to rise while also bringing some much-needed humor.

The supporting cast also delivers some memorable performances, particularly Judge Reinhold, who plays a hilariously inept real estate agent who Ray hires to sell his house as part of his funeral preparations.

The movie is an excellent blend of comedy and drama, and the writing is sharp and witty. The pacing is perfect, with the story flowing seamlessly from one scene to the next. The film's ending is also fitting and ties up the loose ends of the story in a satisfying way.

Overall, Checking Out is a delightful movie that will have you laughing out loud one moment and feeling contemplative the next. The performances are top-notch, and the story is both entertaining and engaging. If you are looking for a heartwarming and entertaining movie that is sure to put a smile on your face, then Checking Out is definitely worth checking out.
