Chasing Yesterday is a heartwarming coming-of-age tale from 2015 directed by Joseph Pernice. The movie tells a story about a young talented college graduate named Mike (Eric Nelsen) who has everything going for him except one thing: he hasn't come to terms with his past. Mike is still haunted by a failed piano recital he had when he was just a child, which not only ended his musical career but also broke his family apart.

Feeling stuck in life and with nowhere to turn, Mike receives a mysterious phone call that soon brings him back to his hometown, where he meets up with his estranged childhood friend friend Sully (Courtney Baxter) and her brother Teddy (Josh Flitter). Sully, a struggling musician herself, convinces Mike to help her and Teddy start a band to compete in a local music competition with a grand prize of ten thousand dollars. Desperate for something to do and with nothing to lose, Mike reluctantly agrees to join their band, taking on the responsibility of both writing and performing their original music.

As the trio starts rehearsing for the big competition, Mike starts to come to terms with his past and remembers what music meant to him, igniting his passion and creativity. With Sully's encouragement, he starts to rediscover his love for music and writing songs again, slowly overcoming his fears and doubts. As he connects with the music and his new friends, he starts to heal the old wounds that have been holding him back.

However, things are not as simple as they seem, and Mike's past catches up with him, threatening to ruin everything he has built. In addition to the usual challenges of forming a band, such as disagreements and creative differences, Mike needs to confront long-held secrets about his family's past, revealing a hidden truth as to why his piano recital didn't go as planned. The encounter ultimately forces Mike to face his fears and his doubt, and with the help of his friends and the music, overcome them.

The movie's plot is engaging, and the characters are well-developed and relatable. The acting is impressive, especially that of Eric Nelsen, who captures the essence of Mike, a character whose journey is central to the plot.

Beyond the plot, the film's soundtrack is fantastic, with original songs that showcase the band's musical talent and serve as a vehicle for the story's themes of the redemption through music.

Overall, Chasing Yesterday is a feel-good movie that will leave the audience inspired and cheering for its protagonists as they chase their dreams with music as their compass. It teaches that no matter how far you fall or how deeply you feel you've failed, there's always a way to turn your life around if you have the will and the right people around you. The film shows that it's never too late to start chasing yesterday and rediscover the joy and purpose of life.
