Chandrahasa is a Kannada movie from 1965, directed by B.R. Panthulu and starring Udaya Kumar, Leelavathi, and Rajkumar in lead roles. The film is based on the classic Indian epic, the Mahabharata. It tells the story of a warrior prince named Chandrahasa who has been cursed by a sage to turn into a demon every night. The movie begins with Chandrahasa, the young prince of Lanka, on a hunt in the forest. He comes across a hermitage where the sage Saptarshi is performing a yajna. Unaware of the sage's presence, Chandrahasa disturbs the yajna and is cursed by the sage to turn into a demon every night. The only way to break the curse is to find a woman who will accept him despite his condition.
Chandrahasa returns to Lanka and is told by his father, the king, that he must marry the princess of Kashi, as per a treaty between the two kingdoms. Chandrahasa accepts the proposal but is saddened by the thought that he may never find a woman who will love him for who he is.
Meanwhile, Princess Vasundhara of Kashi is in love with Arjuna, one of the Pandavas. But Arjuna is already married and cannot marry her. Vasundhara's father agrees to the marriage proposal from Lanka but asks her to think it over.
Chandrahasa visits Kashi and meets Vasundhara for the first time. He is struck by her beauty and kindness and falls in love with her. But he knows that he cannot reveal his curse to her until they are married.
Vasundhara decides to marry Chandrahasa as a way to escape the pain of her unrequited love for Arjuna. After the wedding, Chandrahasa reveals his curse to her. Vasundhara is initially horrified but eventually accepts him for who he is.
The couple returns to Lanka, where Chandrahasa's father is overjoyed to see his son married to a princess. But soon, Chandrahasa's curse becomes a hindrance to his duties as a prince. The people of Lanka fear him and the neighboring kingdoms see him as a threat.
One day, Chandrahasa transforms into a demon and attacks a neighboring kingdom. He is captured and held prisoner. Vasundhara sets out to rescue him and eventually learns that the curse can only be broken by the sage who cursed him in the first place.
Vasundhara and Chandrahasa visit the sage and plead with him to break the curse. The sage agrees, on the condition that Chandrahasa give up his desire for power and ambition. Chandrahasa agrees and the curse is broken.
Chandrahasa and Vasundhara return to Lanka and live happily ever after.
