Celibacy - Putting sex in its place. Over recent months a debate has started up about the importance of teaching teenagers how to say 'no'. No of course to early sexual relationships. Moreover it is a debate that is steadily gathering momentum, in newspaper articles and TV chat shows, against all the odds in our sexually explicit and promiscuous society. The argument basically is that in the mix of sex education that now goes on in schools throughout the western world, about how to have safe sex, one crucially important issue has clearly been overlooked, namely what about those people who don't want to engage in sexual relations yet? How can they be supported? How can they be enabled to resist the immense peer pressure, and indeed the ridicule that is so often heaped upon them when they try to stand up for their own values. As this thoughtful documentary illustrates, this is not a new issue. Far from it. It has been discussed and debated down the ages. This programme brings real knowledge and understanding to this hotly debated issue.
