Caught in Time is a 2020 Chinese action thriller movie directed by Lau Ho-Leung and starring Qianyuan Wang, Daniel Wu, and Jessie Li. The story follows a detective named Baoshan who has been working undercover in the Chinese triads, and who is now trying to track down a high-level criminal who has gone rogue. The movie begins by introducing us to Baoshan (Wang), who is a well-respected detective in the Chinese police force, but who has been secretly working undercover for the past five years in the triads. His cover is blown, however, when a police raid goes wrong, and he narrowly escapes with his life. He is forced to go on the run, pursued by both the police and the triads, who now believe that he is a traitor.
Meanwhile, a notorious criminal known as 'Boss' (Wu) has gone rogue, and is using his connections in the triads to evade the law. Boss has a personal vendetta against Baoshan, and is determined to track him down and kill him. Baoshan, on the other hand, is equally determined to bring Boss to justice, and uses his knowledge of the triads to try and track him down.
As Baoshan and Boss play a deadly game of cat and mouse, the stakes get higher and higher, and the violence becomes increasingly brutal. The movie is full of intense action scenes, car chases, and shootouts, and the tension never lets up.
One of the standout performances in the movie comes from Qianyuan Wang, who delivers a nuanced and complex portrayal of Baoshan. Wang manages to convey both the physicality of the role (he performs many of the stunts himself), and the emotional depth of the character. Baoshan is a man who has been living a double life for years, and Wang does an excellent job of portraying the toll that this has taken on him.
Daniel Wu is also excellent as Boss, bringing a quiet intensity to the role that makes him a truly menacing villain. He is a man who has been pushed to the edge, and his anger and frustration are palpable in every scene. Wu and Wang have excellent chemistry, and their scenes together are some of the movie's most intense.
Jessie Li plays Baoshan's love interest, a fellow police officer who is trying to help him clear his name. Li is a talented actress who brings a warmth and compassion to the role, and she provides a nice contrast to the movie's more violent moments.
Overall, Caught in Time is a well-executed action thriller that should appeal to fans of the genre. The movie is expertly directed by Lau Ho-Leung, and the performances from the three leads are all excellent. The action scenes are intense and exciting, and the story is engaging and suspenseful. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed movie with plenty of heart, then Caught in Time is definitely worth watching.
