Catlow is a Western movie from 1971 that stars Yul Brynner, Richard Crenna, and Leonard Nimoy. The film is based on the novel, "The Renegade," by Louis L'Amour. The story follows the adventures of Jed Catlow (Brynner), a former Confederate officer turned outlaw who is being pursued by a U.S. marshal named Ben Cowan (Crenna). Catlow's former partner, a Mexican bandit named Ortega (Nimoy), is also after him, but for a different reason. Ortega believes Catlow stole a cache of Mexican gold and is determined to get it back.

As Catlow and his gang travel through the Southwest, they encounter a series of challenges and obstacles, including hostile Indian tribes, dangerous landscapes, and ruthless law enforcement officials. Throughout it all, Catlow remains determined to stay one step ahead of Cowan and Ortega, and to protect his prized possession: a beautiful and valuable horse named Rosinante.

The film is full of classic Western tropes, including shootouts, horseback chases, and rugged landscapes. But it also has a sense of humor and a more lighthearted tone than some of its grittier and more dramatic counterparts. Brynner delivers a charming and charismatic performance as Catlow, and Crenna is an excellent foil as the determined and no-nonsense lawman Cowan. Nimoy, in a departure from his more famous role as Mr. Spock in Star Trek, is convincing as the cunning and ruthless Ortega.

One of the standout features of the film is its stunning cinematography, which captures the beauty and majesty of the Southwest landscape. Whether Catlow and his gang are riding through rocky canyons, crossing deserts, or navigating treacherous river rapids, the scenery is always breathtaking and adds an extra layer of excitement and adventure to the film.

Overall, Catlow is an enjoyable and action-packed Western that will appeal to fans of the genre. Its talented cast, exciting plot, and stunning visuals make it a must-see for anyone interested in classic Hollywood filmmaking.

Catlow is a 1971 western with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6.
