Carrie Pilby (Bel Powley) is a genius, a prodigy, but as a 19-year-old, she is struggling to find her place in the world. She graduated from Harvard at 18 and now lives alone in New York City, where her days consist of reading books and watching documentaries. She avoids socializing and relationships, preferring to stay within the comfort of her apartment.

Despite her intelligence, Carrie is struggling to find her way in life. She is unhappy with her job, her therapist, and her lack of social life. Her therapist (Nathan Lane) encourages her to take a chance on life and gives her a to-do list of tasks that includes making friends, going on dates, and throwing a dinner party.

At first, Carrie dismisses the idea of socializing and thinks that she is better off alone. However, she slowly starts to realize that she needs to put herself out there and make some changes in her life. With the help of her new friends, who include a musician (William Moseley), a playwright (Vanessa Bayer), and a lawyer (Jason Ritter), she starts to experience life in a new way.

Throughout the movie, Carrie learns important life lessons about love, relationships, and the importance of connecting with others. She discovers that she has been missing out on the joys of life by isolating herself and that she needs to be more open to new experiences.

Bel Powley delivers a powerful performance as Carrie Pilby. She portrays the character's intelligence and awkwardness in a way that is both relatable and endearing. Powley brings a vulnerability to the role that makes the character's struggles all the more compelling.

Nathan Lane is equally impressive as Carrie's therapist. He delivers a nuanced and empathetic portrayal of a character who is trying to help his patient in the best way he can. Lane's chemistry with Powley is excellent, and the scenes between the two actors are among the movie's strongest.

The supporting cast is also excellent, with standout performances from William Moseley, Vanessa Bayer, and Jason Ritter. Moseley plays a musician who becomes Carrie's love interest, and he brings a natural charm to the role that makes him instantly likable. Bayer and Ritter play Carrie's friends, and both actors do an excellent job in their respective roles.

The movie's direction and cinematography are also noteworthy. Director Susan Johnson has crafted a movie that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant. The movie's New York City setting is captured beautifully, and the movie's use of music and color adds to its overall charm.

Overall, Carrie Pilby is a heartwarming movie that offers a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre. It is a movie that is both funny and poignant, with a great cast and direction. The movie offers an insightful and relatable look at the struggles of growing up, and it is sure to leave audiences feeling uplifted and inspired.
