In a world where extraterrestrial creatures have taken over the Earth, the movie Captive State follows a group of humans living under their rule. The film takes place nine years after the aliens have invaded and shows how they have established a totalitarian regime with the help of human collaborators. Set in Chicago, the movie focuses on two brothers, Gabriel (Ashton Sanders) and Rafe (Jonathan Majors), whose parents were killed during the initial invasion. Gabriel is a young man struggling to find his place in the world, while Rafe is an ex-convict trying to build a life for himself and his brother.

John Goodman plays William Mulligan, a police detective who has been working for the aliens as part of the Collaborators program. He is tasked with tracking down a group of rebel insurgents who are plotting against the alien regime.

The movie explores themes of rebellion, loyalty, and power as the characters navigate a world where they have little control over their own lives. The aliens, known as the Legislators, are shown to be both powerful and mysterious, with their motives and intentions never entirely clear.

The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed sci-fi film Rise of the Planet of the Apes. As such, Captive State is rich in visual and special effects, with a gritty, dark look that fits the mood of the story.

The plot is tightly paced, with each scene building on the tension of the last as the characters move closer to their goals. There are moments of intense action as well as quiet, character-driven scenes that allow the audience to connect with the characters on a deeper level.

The themes of the movie also resonate in contemporary society, with questions of collaboration, resistance, and the nature of power being explored through the lens of science fiction. The movie asks viewers to consider how they would respond in a world where they are no longer in control of their own destinies.

Overall, Captive State is a gripping, thought-provoking movie that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats. With a talented cast and strong direction from Wyatt, it is sure to be a favorite among fans of sci-fi and action movies.

Captive State is a 2019 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0 and a MetaScore of 54.
