Cape Town Affair is a spy thriller movie produced in 1967. The storyline follows a young American man named Dave Rearden, played by James Brolin, who is sent to South Africa to retrieve stolen diamonds worth millions of dollars. He is joined by an inexperienced but beautiful woman named Lyndall, played by Jacqueline Bisset, who is hired to be his cover as they go undercover to retrieve the stolen loot.
The movie opens with Dave meeting with his South African contact, a freedom fighter named Martingale, played by Leonard Sachs. Martingale provides Dave with the necessary information to find the diamonds, but warns him that the South African police are watching his every move. Dave and Lyndall check into a hotel in Cape Town, posing as a newlywed couple on their honeymoon. Their room is bugged by the police, and they quickly discover that they are being followed.
Dave and Lyndall set out to find the diamonds and are eventually led to a luxurious villa belonging to the wealthy businessman General Botha, played by Ivan Desny. It is here that they meet the General's mistress, Madame Grenier, played by Claire Trevor. Madame Grenier, who is French, becomes a hindrance to the pair's mission when she takes a liking to Dave and makes Lyndall increasingly jealous.
As the plot thickens, Dave and Lyndall are forced to navigate their way through dangerous situations, including a high-speed car chase and a bar fight. They manage to retrieve the diamonds but are soon confronted by the police and the General's henchmen, who are all after the stolen jewels. In a nail-biting climax, Dave and Lyndall must fight to escape and avoid being caught by the police and the General's gang.
Cape Town Affair is an action-packed movie, with an excellent cast and a gripping storyline that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. James Brolin is impressive as Dave Rearden, the suave and charismatic spy who is willing to do whatever it takes to complete his mission. Jacqueline Bisset, who was only 22 years old at the time, is stunning as Lyndall, the beautiful and vulnerable woman who finds herself caught up in the dangerous world of espionage. Claire Trevor brings a touch of elegance to the movie with her portrayal of Madame Grenier, the older and sophisticated French mistress of the General.
The movie's setting in South Africa adds a unique element to the storyline, with the political unrest and racial tensions of the time serving as a backdrop to the thrilling espionage narrative. The movie also features impressive cinematography, with beautiful shots of Cape Town, including Table Mountain and the harbor.
