Callas Forever is a 2002 movie that is based on the life of one of the most famous opera singers of all time, Maria Callas. The film is directed by Franco Zeffirelli and stars Fanny Ardant as Maria Callas, Jeremy Irons as Larry Kelly, and Joan Plowright as Sarah Keller. The film takes place in 1977, towards the end of Callas' life when she is living in Paris in her apartment overlooking the Eiffel Tower. She has retired from singing and has taken up teaching. She is approached by her longtime friend Larry Kelly, who is a music producer. Larry has an interesting proposition for Callas: he wants her to record a new album in which she would sing her most famous arias, but this time, they would be re-orchestrated with a modern twist. The idea is to bring Maria Callas into the 21st century and introduce her music to a new generation of fans.

At first, Callas is skeptical about the idea. She has retired from singing for a reason, and she doesn't want to revisit the past. However, Larry is persistent, and he manages to convince her to give it a try. Slowly but surely, Callas starts to come out of her shell and starts to embrace the project. She becomes passionate about the music again and starts to think about the impact that her music can have on a new generation.

Throughout the movie, we see flashbacks of Callas' life, her triumphs, and her downfalls. We see the young Maria Callas, who was a struggling opera singer, trying to make a name for herself, and we see the older Callas, who was a superstar but also a very lonely and complicated woman. We see her tumultuous relationship with Aristotle Onassis, which was one of the most high-profile relationships of the time. Through these flashbacks, we get a glimpse of the complex and deeply emotional life of Maria Callas.

The movie showcases the unique voice of Maria Callas, which was one of the most remarkable and influential voices of the 20th century. Her voice was characterized by its power, range, and emotional intensity. Her music conveyed a raw and unbridled passion that showcased her incredible talent as a singer.

Fanny Ardant's performance as Maria Callas is truly captivating. She brings a depth of emotion to the character that is nothing short of astounding. She manages to capture the essence of Callas' voice and musicality, and she gives a performance that is truly unforgettable.

Jeremy Irons is also excellent as the music producer Larry Kelly. He portrays the character with charm and wit, and he gives the character a sense of humanity that is often lacking in movies about the music industry.

Joan Plowright is remarkable in her role as Sarah Keller, Callas' best friend. She provides a sense of stability to the somewhat erratic Callas and is a voice of reason throughout the movie.

Overall, Callas Forever is a beautiful tribute to one of the greatest opera singers of all time. The movie perfectly captures the raw emotion and passion of Maria Callas' music, and it showcases the impact that her voice had on the world. It's a movie that will leave you feeling in awe of her talent and deeply moved by her story.
