BURNT OUT is a 2005 French drama film directed by Fabienne Godet. The movie stars Olivier Gourmet as Paul Thomas, a man in his mid-thirties who lives in Paris with his wife, Lucie, played by Dominique Blanc, and their two children. Paul works a dead-end job as an employee in a car manufacturing factory, and his daily routine is monotonous and unfulfilling.

Paul's life takes a drastic turn when he is laid off from his job, and he finds himself struggling to make ends meet. Desperate for a way out of his dire financial situation, Paul turns to his sister-in-law, Rosine, played by Julie Depardieu, for help. Rosine introduces him to the world of phone sex, and Paul soon becomes obsessed with his new line of work.

As he becomes more and more immersed in the seedy underworld of phone sex, Paul begins to lose touch with reality. He starts to neglect his family, spending all of his time and money on his phone sex addiction. His behavior becomes increasingly erratic, and he begins to distance himself from the people in his life who care about him.

The film delicately explores the themes of loneliness, addiction, and the lengths that people will go to in order to escape their circumstances. The character of Paul is a deeply flawed but sympathetic protagonist, and Olivier Gourmet gives a masterful performance, bringing complexity and depth to the troubled character.

The film also features stunning cinematography, capturing the gritty urban landscapes of Paris and the bleakness of Paul's life. The soundtrack, composed by Bertrand Burgalat, enhances the mood of the film, adding a haunting and melancholic tone to the story.

Overall, BURNT OUT is a thought-provoking and emotionally powerful film that explores the darker aspects of human nature. It is a raw and unflinching portrait of a man struggling to find his place in the world, and the toll that the pursuit of happiness can take on a person's life.
