Brother Bear 2 is a 2006 animated adventure film directed by Ben Gluck and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the sequel to the 2003 film Brother Bear and it continues the story of Kenai (Voiced by Patrick Dempsey). The film begins with Kenai now living as a human after having been transformed from a bear in the previous film. Kenai has now become a part of his new human village and he spends his days helping his tribe out with tasks like hunting and gathering. Despite his new life, Kenai still finds himself longing for a connection to his former bear self.
One day, Kenai runs into his childhood friend Nita (Voiced by Mandy Moore), who he used to play with when he was a bear. The two reminisce about the good old days and Nita tells Kenai that she needs his help. She is set to marry a man named Atka, but before she can do so, she needs to burn her childhood amulet which she had made with Kenai many years ago. The amulet is believed to signify their engagement, and burning it is supposed to release Nita from any ties she had to Kenai from their past.
Kenai agrees to help Nita, but things take a turn when the spirits of the land become upset about the breaking of the bond between Kenai and Nita. In order to appease them, the two must go on a journey to burn the amulet in the place where it was made, which is deep into the wild and treacherous forest. Along the way, they are joined by Kenai's younger brother Koda (Voiced by Jeremy Suarez) and a hilariously bumbling pair of moose (Voiced by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas).
As they journey deeper into the forest, they must confront not only the wild elements of the environment, but also the ancient spirits that call it home. Along the way, they learn about the importance of friendship, loyalty, and staying true to oneself.
Brother Bear 2 features the same gorgeous animation and lush landscapes as its predecessor, and the addition of new characters like Nita and Atka bring fresh energy to the film. The voice performances are solid across the board, with Dempsey and Moore imbuing Kenai and Nita with genuine chemistry and heart.
The film uses humor to lighten some of the darker moments, and the moose characters provide some excellent comic relief. However, the film never loses sight of its central themes and manages to be both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Overall, Brother Bear 2 is a worthy follow-up to the original film, and is sure to delight both new and returning viewers with its adventure-packed story and heartfelt message.
