Broken is a 2012 British independent drama film directed by Rufus Norris, based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Clay. It revolves around the life of a young girl named Skunk (Eloise Laurence) who lives with her father Archie (Tim Roth) and brother Jed (Bill Milner) in a suburban London neighborhood. The movie begins with the introduction of Skunk and her daily routine. She is a young girl with a passion for science who has a close relationship with her father and brother. She attends school where she is teased by some of the students, but she also has a close group of friends.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Skunk witnesses a violent attack on her neighbor Mike (Cillian Murphy) by Rick (Robert Emms), the violent and unpredictable boyfriend of Skunk's older neighbor Kasia (Zana Marjanovic). In the aftermath of the attack, Skunk's world is turned upside down, and she must navigate through the aftermath alongside her family and friends.

As Skunk tries to understand the event that has transpired, she is forced to confront some harsh realities about the adult world around her. Her father, Archie, a widower, is struggling to raise two children alone while also trying to maintain a relationship with his new girlfriend, educator and nurse, Kasia. Skunk's brother Jed, who is autistic, is also struggling to cope with the events surrounding the attack.

In addition to these obstacles, Skunk also has to contend with the social dynamics of school, where she is bullied by a group of students who resent her friendship with a boy named Dillon (George Sergeant). She also becomes close to another boy named Rick (Tom Sweet), who she meets through her friendship with Dillon.

One of the most poignant aspects of the film is the way in which it shows the impact of the event on all the characters who were involved or who were affected by it. The film depicts these characters struggling to come to terms with the aftermath of the attack, as they try to understand what happened, why it happened, and how it has changed them. The film is an emotional rollercoaster, moving from moments of joy and happiness to moments of sadness and despair.

The performances in the film are all impressive, particularly the lead actress Eloise Laurence, who is outstanding in her role as Skunk. The young actress is remarkable in her ability to convey the complexity of her character's emotions.

Tim Roth is also impressive as Archie, a father who is trying to keep it all together while struggling with his own demons. Robert Emms is chilling as Rick, the unstable boyfriend who brings chaos into the neighborhood, and Zana Marjanovic is equally impressive as Kasia, who is forced to confront the violent past she thought she had left behind.

Overall, Broken is a powerful film that offers a realistic and nuanced look at the impact of violence on a small community. It is a moving and emotionally resonant film that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it.

Broken is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.2 and a MetaScore of 53.
