Broken Mile is a thriller film directed by Justin McConnell and released in 2016. The movie features Francesco Filice as Sean Weathers, a young man who wakes up in a strange apartment to find his mobile phone and a note from his girlfriend, Lisa, informing him that she has been kidnapped. The note instructs Sean to follow a series of clues to find her, but as he embarks on a tense and desperate journey across the city, he soon realizes that he is caught up in a dangerous game of revenge and betrayal.

The movie begins with a scene of a car driving through a quiet suburban street in the dead of night. The driver, Sean, appears to be half asleep and slightly disorientated as he pulls up outside an apartment building. We see him fumble for his keys and let himself into the building, before taking the elevator up to the designated floor. As he steps out of the elevator, he is immediately confronted by a menacing figure who demands to know who he is and what he is doing there. Sean appears confused and groggy, as if he has just woken from a deep sleep, and can offer no explanation that satisfies his assailant.

The tension soon ratchets up as the viewer is drawn into Sean's desperate and increasingly frantic quest to find Lisa, unravel the mystery of her disappearance and avoid the danger that seems to lurk around every corner. Accompanied by a cast of uneasy and enigmatic characters, including a jaded detective, a philosophical cab driver and a seductive and unpredictable woman, Sean navigates a nightmarish landscape of sinister back alleys, abandoned buildings and deserted streets.

One of the key themes of the movie is the concept of time, and the way in which the passing of hours and minutes can both impel and constrain our actions. As Sean races against the clock in his search for Lisa, the viewer is very much aware of the weight of time bearing down on him, counting down the minutes he has left to save his girlfriend and escape the danger that is closing in around him.

Another theme that runs through the movie is the way in which we perceive reality, and the degree to which our senses and perceptions can be distorted by fear and anxiety. As Sean becomes more and more desperate, his grip on reality seems to slip away, and the viewer is never quite sure what is real and what is the product of his fevered imagination.

The acting in the movie is generally strong, with Francesco Filice in particular delivering a convincing performance as Sean, the beleaguered and bewildered protagonist. The script is taut and well-paced, and the direction effectively ratchets up the tension as the movie progresses.

Overall, Broken Mile is a gripping thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The movie is not for the faint of heart, as it contains scenes of violence, implied sexual violence and drug use. However, for those who enjoy tense, tightly-plotted thrillers that never let up the pressure, Broken Mile is definitely worth a look.

Broken Mile is a 2017 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.1.
