A rancher by trade and a lonely hermit by disposition, Joe lives high atop the mountains of Colorado and has scarcely seen a soul during the last several years of his self-imposed isolation. His day-to-day life consists of doing the chores necessary to support himself and his property, and while not a depressed man, he has no interest in much contact with anything else besides his animals.

When Joe's son Dylan is released from prison on parole, he reaches out to his father, with Dylan promising that he will change his ways and live the straight life. Under the care of his father, Dylan seeks to correct the sins of his past, but will find that the past is not so easy to escape from.
