Bride and Prejudice is a 2004 film directed by Gurinder Chadha, known for her previous work on Bend it Like Beckham. The movie is a Bollywood-style adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice. The film takes place in India and England and tells the story of Lalita Bakshi (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), a young woman who is determined to find love on her own terms, despite the pressure of her traditional family. She meets and clashes with the wealthy American businessman Will Darcy (Martin Henderson) at a friend's wedding ceremony, and both of them feel an undeniable attraction.

As Lalita meets Darcy more often, she becomes convinced that he is arrogant and intolerant, causing her to dismiss him. Meanwhile, Lalita's mother, Mrs. Bakshi (Nadira Babbar), urges her to marry the wealthy and handsome American, Mr. Kholi (Naveen Andrews). However, Lalita is not interested in settling for a marriage without love, as her elder sister Jaya (Namrata Shirodkar) had done.

As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Lalita's preconceptions of Mr. Darcy were incorrect, and he is, in fact, a caring and empathetic man. Darcy also comes to realize that Lalita is not like any other woman he has met before, and is struck by her intelligence, humor, and independence. However, the two of them continue to bicker and misunderstand each other, causing tension between them.

As Lalita questions Darcy's intentions, her best friend Maya (Meghna Kothari) gets involved with Mr. Kholi, which complicates things further. Meanwhile, Jaya's marriage to Balraj (Nitin Ganatra) hits a snag, and the Bakshi family goes to London on a trip, where things come to a head.

In London, Lalita meets Darcy's family, and she's impressed by his sister Georgina (Alexis Bledel) and his aunt Catherine (Miriam Margolyes). She also becomes more supportive of her sister's decision to forgive her husband's past transgressions. However, Lalita's and Darcy's relationship hangs in the balance, thanks to a misunderstanding and a breakdown in communication.

The climax of the movie is a grand wedding ceremony in India, where all the characters come together to reconcile and celebrate the unions that have been forged. Lalita confronts Darcy and reveals her true feelings, leading to a happy ending for the two of them.

Overall, Bride and Prejudice is a colorful, vibrant, and energetic adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that brings the story into the modern world with a Bollywood flair. The film's performances, music, and dance sequences are all top-notch, and the chemistry between the lead actors is palpable. Though it takes some liberties with the original story, the themes of love, family, and societal pressure are still present and resonate with audiences even today.

Bride and Prejudice is a 2004 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 55.
